How can we employ evidence-based best practices to improve dementia care?
This study by the Pennsylvania State University College of Nursing and the University of Maryland School of Nursing examines the effectiveness of approaches for helping residents with cognitive impairment engage in meaningful activities and improve psychological well-being.
This study focuses on the implementation of an evidence-based process to increase person-centered management of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. Researchers are working with staff at two Acts communities toward the goal of helping residents engage in meaningful activities that also optimize their function and physical activity.
Acts staff receive an initial education session led by expert research facilitators, plus monthly training and consultation.
The findings from this study will add to what is known about implementation of effective treatment of dementia, and help Acts and other continuing care retirement communities implement the highest quality person-centered care approaches.
